Eleanor Roosevelt quotes

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was an American political figure, diplomat, and activist who served as the First Lady of the United States during her husband President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s four terms in office. She was the longest-serving First Lady from 1933 to 1945. A vociferous advocate of Human Rights, she helped draft the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. She was a prominent public figure who often spoke out in favor of women’s rights, children’s issues, helping the poor, and combating racial discrimination.

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11, 1884, in Manhattan, New York City. Through her father, she was a niece of President Theodore Roosevelt. She was way ahead of her time in the way she advocated for civil rights for African-Americans, for which she was considered a controversial figure at her time. She served as a delegate to the General Assembly until 1953, before becoming chair of the U.N.’s Human Rights Commission, where she contributed to what she considered her greatest achievement: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Although a controversial public figure at her time, she is today regarded as a very important women leader. She passed away on November 7, 1962, aged 78, after a medical complication caused aplastic anemia, tuberculosis, and heart failure.
