Paul Mooney, born Paul Gladney, was an American comedian, writer, social critic, and actor. Mooney was best known for his work in comedic circles, including his comedy albums and time as head writer on “The Richard Pryor” show. He was also a writer for many sitcoms and comedy shows. In addition to his comedy writing, Mooney also starred in several films, the most recent being “Meet The Blacks”. He also collaborated with comedic stars like Richard Pryor and Dave Chappelle.
Mooney was born in 1941 in Shreveport, Louisiana, and moved to Oakland, California, seven years later. Mooney’s acting credits also include playing Sam Cooke in The Buddy Holly Story, the NAACP President in Hollywood Shuffle and Junebug in Spike Lee’s Bamboozled. He passed away on 19 May, 2021.
