Grover Cleveland quotes

Stephen Grover Cleveland was an American politician and lawyer who was the 22nd and 24th president of the United States, the only president in American history to serve two non-consecutive terms in office. Cleveland was a formidable policymaker, and he also drew corresponding criticism. Cleveland distinguished himself as one of the few truly honest and principled politicians of the Gilded Age. His second term was a troubled one, mainly due to economic disasters, depressions and strikes. And yet, his reputation for probity and good character survived the troubles of his second term.

Stephen Grover Cleveland was born on March 18, 1837, in Caldwell, New Jersey. After clerking in a law firm in Buffalo, New York, he was admitted to the bar in 1859 and soon entered politics as a member of the Democratic Party. Before becoming president, he served as the sheriff of Erie County, the Mayor of Buffalo, and Governor of New York. He won the popular vote for three presidential elections—in 1884, 1888, and 1892 and served two non-consecutive terms in 1885–1889 and 1893–1897. He has been praised for honesty, integrity, adherence to his morals, and defying party boundaries. He passed away on June 24, 1908.
