James Edward Fassel was an American college and professional football player and coach. He was the head coach of the New York Giants from 1997 to 2003. He was named NFL coach of the year in 1997 and led the team to the 2001 Super Bowl. He was also the head coach, general manager, and president of the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League.
Fassel was born on August 31, 1949. He graduated from Anaheim High School and played quarterback at Fullerton College, USC, and Long Beach State. Fassel’s first professional coaching job was with The Hawaiians of the World Football League in 1974. Fassel died of a heart attack on 7th June 2021.
